Further to the tagging thing. Its the reading of the tags that worries me. In Canada pretty well all our cattle have ID tags but they are seldom read in normal operations. It would be a nightmare if that was mandated. If you scan the tags on 2 heifers and dump them in a pen you instantly don't know which is which. Imagine 20 loads of calves scanned into the auction mart and scanned out to 20 destinations. Then mixed with cattle from other auction markets. I can imagine the need to scan thousand of heads to find a single animal. I way trust brand inspectors and pen riders over keyboard warriors.
