Subject: RE: Truck scales

“These are the times that try men's souls.”
Just things I found out last summer putting in livestock scales. We talked about truck scales. Seemed to be around 1,000 bucks per running foot, I sure could be off on that figure. Things we learned, at least in our state. The state of Washington wouldn't allow a used set of our scales be sold into state of Washington if they had modified from original build. We had a old bar/beam weight system that had been modified to load cells.

Yet the state of Utah would allow that scale to come to them from Idaho. We did the leg work before had to pre-sell our old one when purchasing new from dealer. The dealer helped line it up with state of Utah to allow it to be transfered. You couldn't get scales certified if you build them yourselves. Have to be built in approved shop or dealer has to certified to build.

The common factor was the modification of old bar/beams to load cells. However if you install the old bar beam back in scales, it could be sold out of state. Set up, certified then rip bar/beam out go back to load cells.

Just one of those deals it's a lot easier to talk to state weight and measure people before you purchase new and or used scales. Talk to dealers as they might used rentals available for purchase too.
