Subject: RE: Building a Barn

We have 3 50x100s and 3 50x300s

Built them in 05-09

We started with scrape alleys what a disaster. Tore them out.

The feed lane outside of the barns can store all the cattle when I'm in cleaning them. I have gates all along the alley I use to sort and pull sicks.

We feed on the ground along a curb like a dairy. Have gates in the bunk line that they can eat through. Use portable panels in the 300ft sheds to separate cattle if I so choose to do so.

The less things in the barn to scrape around the better. I'll try to find some pics

If doing it today I'm not sure we'd do the 300ft bedding barns. At that time we put up 3 400 head deep pits also. Back then they were reasonably priced. I shoulda built more deep pits and only had enough bedding barns to start calves in. Grow them in a lot for awhile then move into the deep pit

Back then we had more help and more partners than we do now. Didn't seem like bedding and hauling pen pack was such a big deal. Fast forward and helps a luxury we don't have as much of
