Crazy! We only have tire tanks with no power to them but concrete covers. Have to chip the drinkers out but the centers rarely freeze. We started off bad -28 early and-54f windchill but the wind died down and calves were sunning in the afternoon high was -23f. Had no water issues this cold snap. Put 20’ of 8” pipe horizontally 10’ deep and 10’ of 12” vertically in the center of the tanks pumping inside with underwater floats very happy with how it’s working.
Is your heat well open ended and above the water level or closed on the top?
I have the water line running through a 6” riser but end it on the bottom of the concrete plug. I generally don’t have issues with the center freezing around the float until it’s -40 though |
