No sheep, but goats here are just as bad. Don’t drink the volume of water that cows do to keep fresh/warmer water coming in to them.
Had mirafounts that couldn’t keep thawed. Used a heat puck, heat lamp and heat tape to try to keep it going, still was an occasional fail when things got below 0
Put in a cobbet. Works, but gets a notable layer of ice daily, sometimes 2x unless you keep a good amount of critters against it.
Best option is a Jug. Very low heat demand. Mine are sitting on a slab with a 4” pipe for the electric/water line and no wind break. Been working perfectly down to -20 last 3-4 years.
They are short enough for sheep/goats/dogs.
Thanks - - - wonder what they would be like when it gets to -30 or -35?
(Have had that here with winds of steady 40 mph and gusts to 50 mph for 3 days straight - - - that was bloody ugly!)
(Just checked with a calculator - - - that would be -78F and they said - - - stay indoors - - - ha - - - time to feed - - - time to get out there!)
