When it says it needs a ground signal all that means is the output on the PI is off.

Outputs on the PI are in two states either on, or off. The off signal is what turns your relays on. Yes it's backwards, but that's just the way it is.

So, when the output on the PI is "on/high/3.3V ", the output of the relays are off.

When the output on the PI is "off/low/0V", the output of the relays are on.

The relays they use are NO/NC/COM relays, so you can reverse the behavior of the circuit outputs on that side if you need to.

You may or may not have to include what's called a pull down resistor on the output. Try it first and see.
