Southwest Illinois
We did the two machines in beans for a couple years. Then went to one large machine. We cut just as many beans per day with one large machine instead of two, older and smaller machines. Eliminates the need for a second driver and moving between fields takes less time. We have quite a few smaller fields that makes no sense pulling into with two machines, plus farming near larger towns is more complicated and breaking down driving on a busy highway is no fun. To me it depends on your labor situation and how much work you can do yourself. I am sure some guys make it work in their situation. For us, going back to one machine made more sense. Since we are generally 60-70% corn we really don't have tons of beans to cut anyway.
