Remember stuff like that in the news all the time when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s.
Maybe the biggest difference now is the 24hr news cycle and also hearing about local stuff from everywhere in the world that was not on the "front page" back then so much. It makes it seem like more is going on now than it used to but in a lot of ways, things are better in any one area.
