W Texas
Johnsongrass is very dangerous after getting a rain following a period of stress. Perfect recipe for both prussic acid and nitrates. Prussic acid will dissipate and a forage sample won't reveal the problem. But could collect a sample and test for nitrates, at least.

On a railroad right of way it could also be hardware disease.
