I think the best chili I ever made, started with leftover brisket. Besides that, though I do not mind beans in chili, it can not be called proper.

People from Dallas will put funny things like sugar and corn in chili, although it is edible, don’t do that. Lots around here use rotel, that is not proper either. Get the heat from the chilis and/or powder, as that is what brings the right flavor, well mainly that and cumin.
