Central ND | I had been renting a tough piece of land for the last 5 years. It started by being approached by land owner about just trying to get some sort of feed growing in it for a couple years because no cash crops was working out in the past. Then the owner wanted me to try alfalfa and it actually worked great until it flooded out after 2 cuttings. Reseeded it the next year then had a long drought and hardly nothing germed so he asked if I would sign a contract to void our current deal so he can put it in crp so I did. Currently after some nice moisture there is a beautiful crop of alfalfa and he won’t let me cut it once and just wants to kill it and seed it to crp. The thing is he missed the spring planting window for crp cost shared and another window is august 1 for 45 days. So do I stay out of it or let our local FSA office know about the possible lie about planting date. I know what I should do but hate to see 200+ bales of feed just get killed. It’s an out of state land owner if that matters. TIA | |
