East Central Illinois | Good information, thanks for all the posts! So since I have this straight alfalfa, and I was planning on building a homemade round bale feeder anyway, should I try to put a bale of alfalfa and one of grass together in the pen? The cows will eat as much protein as they need, then eat hay? Are cows able to ration themselves? Or would they just eat alfalfa until it’s gone, then grass? I’m talking a total of 60-70 bales through the winter, and no way to grind/mix bales together. Most of it is grass hay, just have 8-10 bales of alfalfa from a new patch | |
