NW Iowa | Very well said. I was never in the service but I can't imagine what those guys went through to have those memories burned into their minds for life. My dad's best friend who served in Japan in WW2 went back for mental treatment because of the war 65 years after the war ended. I have similar stories about Vietnam vets too like most of you in my age range do. We who did not experience what they did can cruise smoothly through our lives. They can't. When I was younger I knew a WW1 vet who had the job of removing the dead after a battle and sometimes it would be several days till they could go out there. He said he will never forget the smell. That's all he said. May they all rest in peace forever. | |
