Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

NE Montana really is the big empty but the designation of Glasgow, MT as the middle of nowhere really overstates the fact that it is isolated. During the 60s & early 70s, there was a huge SAC base about 15 miles from Glasgow. B52s, F104s and Nukes plus a whole lot of AF guys. Cold war went away and SAC was scaled back so the base closed and population dwindled. Glasgow is still bigger than my hometown of Wolf Point though. We make the trip to the middle of nowhere at least once a week for groceries. Also visit the VA clinic there occasionally.
Much more isolated is the road from Brockway, MT to Terry, MT. It is very sparsely populated and can drive 47 miles between the two towns and see very few REA lines heading off to a homesite. Lonely two lane road that's decent in good weather but when it's winter, I avoid the shortcut and stay to the more well traveled stretches. Really though, there are some winter conditions when even a half mile is too far to survive walking for help.
