Grease your pto shaft. When you are lifting and lowering it, it is sliding.
If it does not slide easily it will pull on the gearbox.

I have seen them get so tight on equipment that it split the casting on the tractor and pulled the pto out.

Dad always suggested on snow blower. “Stop, reduce rpm as you raise, or lower unit. Then speed up, move. Never raise, lower under full load”
Seemed to work.
