Subject: RE: Bush hog ripping gear box off

Faunsdale, AL
There’s just not enough thickness there to stand up to abuse.

I haven’t ever been around BushHog cutters even though they’re manufactured about 50 miles away in Selma, Alabama.

I was recently on another farm and they had a 20’ that was in the shop with the wing gearbox off for repairs to the same support as yours. There’s about 1/4” thickness in that formed channel. It’s just not enough.

I’ve fixed the same support broken out on a Rhino cutter, but it broke only after the operator kept running it with a broken bolt or two. The Rhino 6’ cutter had a full 3/8 thickness. I welded another 3/8 thick plate down on it and duplicated the hole pattern to bolt the box back down.

The blade carrier has to be removed to pull the box off to repair it that way, but I believe it will be permanent.
