Subject: RE: Shoup Chromed Rasp Bars 9550

Faunsdale, AL
There’s usually a shim behind one bar to make it a little higher than the others so you’ll get a tick from it before they all start scrubbing if you close the concave too much. It must not be strictly necessary, because it’s no longer in either of the 9600’s I have dealt with. Just saw it in the tech manual.

You’ll want to change one bar at the time or certainly don’t take them all off before you start reinstalling the new ones because there are several spiders in there that are loose. Check the spiders with the keys in them carefully for cracks. Most often it’ll be the one nearest the drive pulley that’s cracked.

Pry up and down on cylinder with a bar to check bearings and make sure concave supports are not cracked or loose.

It’s a good time to change the concave if you’re getting close! At least check it for level while you’re inspecting it. When you’re installing the actuator etc, you’ll have to set the limit of travel and zero the indicator.

Look over the feeder house floor carefully. Maybe your floor is fine but the wear plate at the front is getting thin.
