East Central MN | On our same vintage Lester Pole barn, we have sliding doors as well. The doors are constructed with the vertical aluminum channels on the ends that 2x6s girders slide into to create the door frame. Then covered with pole barn steel.
To secure the doors, (wish I had pictures) they used a 2x2x1/8 box iron about half as long as the door opening with hooks that slide over one of the 2x6s where the ribs of the steel siding allowed. This supports the door and keeps the doors together. On the ends they had a bracket that attached to the posts that the vertical on the side of the door slide behind (again wish I had pictures).
We have a west facing door and a north facing door on this building, and while we don't have the winds that western MN / Dakota get, this system has worked for us for close to 50 years. and it is simple. Slide the doors closed and put the bar on. | |
