North of London | Have had a couple dynamited since I had an uncle who used the stuff but one of my grandfathers spent a number of days one summer setting fires on large granite stones.
He would gather scrap and tend the fire until the stone cracked enough to had away on a stone boat.
Seems as though the stones were bigger then because I was not that big but some were in fields and were farmed around for many years.
One large blue granite stood a fire all day and did not crack so they hauled pails of water back and through them on it.
Cracked it enough to haul the pieces away but a JD 60 got beat a couple times trying to drag the biggest piece away and they had to rehook and pull it a different direction but got it just into the woodlot eventually | |
