Subject: RE: IH Truck Clutch Alignment Tool

middle TN
I put a new clutch in my '71 1600 here a few years ago. I used one I bought at the parts store, just a little steel rod with threads on one end, and different bushings that interchange to get the size of the pilot bearing. It also has a tapered aluminum sleeve that you slide up to center the clutch disc. I think it is a Lisle brand, I bought this one at a carquest, off of the little racks out in front of the counter.

For instances that this shaft doesn't work, I have picked a socket that is the same diameter of the pilot hole, attached to an extension that is wrapped( you need a good extension that will hold onto the socket or you will have to disassemble and start over if the socket falls off) in duct-tape or electrical tape to bring it up to the correct diameter. It takes alot of tape, but it has worked on more than one tractor here.

Hope this helps,

Jared
