Although fusible links act like a fuse..they are more of a thermal active control that will open when the surface temperature reaches the design point. thus preventing a fire from going into the rest of the system. Most fusible links are near the power source..ie battery, alternator, fuel cells. etc . They form a line of defence between the power source and the power distribution fuses
