Subject: Would someone explain a fusable link please...

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums.
I understand fuses, circuit breakers, and why electrical systems need protection. Buy why on earth is a fusible link useful?? It usually just camoflages the problem in my experience. Why not use a fuse instead. Maybe there's a good reason, but I hate them. They're not easy to trouble shoot. Sometimes you can't even tell it's a fusible link, you just think it's a wire and it usually looks good. Can't tell it's burned out.

Current annoyance is a 7410 tractor. Under the hood on the upper right hand side is a big starter relay. (don't know why they don't put it near the starter) anyway behind and below that is a awful junction contraption with a fusible link and a complex battery cable with splitters. All ours get brittle from the heat and they vibrate terrible and fall apart. I'm thinking of just putting a small wire instead of the fusible link. I figure it will still burn out first. Any objection or suggestion?

It's items 4-8 in the pictures below. Crazy looking mess.
