Subject: Not for me..

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums.
I've used tape alone, and Rector alone and had poor results with either alone. Both seems to be a better combo for us. (for spray fittings)

Tape alone works good on pipe fittings for hydraulics too. They don't recommend using it because people aren't careful when the wrap it on the fitting and teflon tidbits end up stopping up tappits, and spools and orifices, but it works good if you are careful. I don't think any major equipment manufacturer uses pipe fitting on hydraulic systems anyway, it's just shortline companies, and farmer-rigged contraptions. Oring boss, or flatface oring is much better on hydraulics whereas no dope or tape is required anyway. Problem is that you usually can't get what you need at the local agri-supply. So a lot of guys end up using NPT fittings cause they're easy.
