Subject: Another vote for Rector Seal

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums.
We do a couple winds of teflon tape, then Rector Seal (pipe dope). People often wrap teflon tape on the fitting wrong and will make it ineffective... make sure you wrap it clockwise if the threads are facing you. If you don't wrap it the correct direction on the pipe threads, it will unwrap when you screw it in, and get all jumbled up like Rich's underwear. Wrap it clockwise, like you would tighten a fitting.

Teflon tape will stop most leaks.

Teflon tape plus Rector seal will stop practically all leaks, and make it easy to remove in the future. I don't agree with the silicon method. If it turns even a fraction after the silicon dry, you lose the seal. Not so with Rector Seal. It doesn't have to be Rector seal, just a non-drying pipe dope. We like Rector seal blue. Dultmeier.com has it in lots of versions.
