I have seen those steering devices that allowed driverless plowing in a big circle. I have pictures SOMEWHERE. A quick google search did not find one. If I find one this evening I will post it.

I remember seeing them as a long pole sticking out in front of the tractor attached to the steering linkage,with a heavy V shaped wheel that ran in the plow furrow.
Some even had a "kill switch wired to stop the engine if it jumped the furrow.
It must have taken very flat rock free land to make it work.
