Subject: RE: Need kernal processor for IH 881

Sioux Center, Iowa
It's been a good unit, and we bought it well used. We added the processor. Things to look for:

All the wear stuff you're used to checking on your 881, ie blower, knives, shear bar, spout liner, crossauger, and etc.

Check all the splines in the pto driveline. If it had a tongue extension, there are splines there and by the gear box that can get thin. If your lucky it'll have a one piece shaft with splines only infront of the gear box.

The plate under the feed rolls on each side of the throat is a wear item and can get thin. Not that bad or expensive to replace, just needs to be checked.

Smooth roll scraper- if it's too worn, crop wedges between roll and scraper.

The 824 2 row head is a lot better than the 822.

185 hp should be a great plenty for a 2 row. You could even run 3 with that. We ran a 1066 on 2 rows and then on 3 for one year. Wasn't enough power, but worked. We run only 6 knives to get the 3/4 inch cut.

BTW a neighbor has an 881 and found out last year that the friction discs for the blower are no longer available.
