We keep hearing about this or that big planter getting "ripped in two" by one means or another.  There have been at least three versions of this story posted here.  Somehow, nobody ever has any evidence to support the crazy story, and people who seem to know can account for all of the planters that were made, and none are out of service. 

My question:  Who is making all the stories up, and what sort of mental defect is causing them to do so?
