Subject: German Issue??

We've had several over the years. 2950s 2955s, and 3150s. All were basically the same tractor. In my opinion, the price is too high for those hours. Especially if he can't prove any major work has been done. I never was a fan of the Manheim tractors. They seemed like they were good for a long time, then all the sudden, they were a money pit. We never worked them hard either. We put 10K hrs on all of them and traded them off. We put clutches in every one. That was the worst part of the tractor. They were leaky tractors too. The lift capacity of the 3pt is not much to brag about either. I'd rather have a 4055. I'd say those 6 cylinder germans were OK, but they are not very durable. I'd rather spend more and get a 7200 or 7210. Or switch to a red 5240, but then you come back to the German issue again. I think 5240s were more durable than the MX120s that replaced them. We had a bunch of those red ones too.

I absolutely agree with you except I'm baffled about your reference to a CIH 5240 and the "German Issue". The original Maxxums based on David Brown technology, excepting the CDC engine. The DB stuff has some limitations, especially the PTO, but it's hard to blame it on anyone other than the British and the guys at Case who kept buying into it.
