One hour is cutting it close.
AMS has two jobs. It captures hardness and dirt in the water that would disable parts of the RU and on some weeds the N makes them more receptive to absorbing it. I have no faith in substitutes.
The beads from the air injected nozzles are hollow and easy to see. They seem to penetrate for me.
