North Central Oklahoma
That rye grass can be as valuable as gold if you know how to use it. I look at that stand and wish I had it somewhere here in Oklahoma. Properly managed it will make more money than corn, wheat or soybeans here. I average 425 lbs. beef/acre gain every year off of a rye grass farm. At $.95/lbs. feeder cattle price that is a chunk of change. Just need to have a good fence around it. A single strand hot wire would be risky at .79 acre / head stocking rate when those cattle get around 800 + lbs. They get so big and happy they start rubbing and tearing stuff up. Part of farming is surviving and making lemonade out of lemons. Rye grass can be lemonade.
