North Central Kansas | Sometime in the mid 90's was cutting milo in December. About 10 degrees in the morning. Started Gleaner L (they are really fun to start that cold) and backed it out of shed to warm up. Let it run about 20 minutes while I got everything ready and then went to move it and the Hydraulic pump had sheared the shaft. Where it was at was kind of icy and when I went to pull the pickup around it to stand on to fix it it slid over into the header and ran a nice crease down the side. I tore the old pump off and got the new one one and went to cutting. By that time it was getting a little greasy. I flipped a piece of mud into the hydro belt and tore the idler off and ended up getting the neighbors combine to finish that day. I hate late harvests. Day's are short, tempers are long, and yields are going down. I usually want to be cutting milo by the 15th of October. Not this year. | |
