Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | I believe it was the winter of '92-'93 that was late for us. (Tend to try to forget those years). '92 was very cool and the crops did not dry down. I know we picked some corn after it had snowed around Christmas and it was still 18% or so. We didn't pick any more until Feburary...in the snow about a foot deep, still 17 to 18% moisture. That was a struggle. I definately remember finnishing up in the spring of '93 in a field where the raod was blocked with snow all winter. It was the 10th of April. Corn was still standing fine and the moisture was finally down to 15%.
It's awfully hard to leave it out all winter...a lot of stress. But the corn was sure easier to harvest in April than it was any other time that winter. Free storage, too!
