NE SD | Our gumbo gets real tight REAL fast. If you plant into it when it's wet it can leave not good results. Last year when our corn flooded out and we took the crop ins. on it we disked it down in July. We were having problems in the gumbo with a 9400 with 710 metrics and no ballast power hopping pulling a 35' disk. We're worried about our ability to strip-till into it. Especially in the spring. No-till has been a blessing for this stuff. Guys used to go out and plow it or chisel plow it in the fall and make bricks about the size of cement blocks. Then you'd work it once or twice in the spring and finally got it down to clumps about the size of your fists and try to plant into it. Then it'd rain about 3" and they'd melt down and dry out into 160 acre concrete slabs. | |
