I don't know your neighbour but that's starting to sound like the pattern response from our bike shop.
We just got our CanAm Outlander 400XT back this week. It spent 3 weeks in surgery after the decompression release woofed it's cookies and smacked a hole in the valve cover along with taking the timing chain and guide with it.
Musta been a fluke thing because we've never seen that before they say... Said the same thing after the gearshift lever broke at 2 months of age.... and when the headlights quick working, and....
All I know is that in 16 months it's had more trouble that we had in 10 years with a pair of old Yamabombers.
Dunno what the polaris is like because I never had one, but I never had a very good feeling about them.
