First pic is of Hadfi (Kuvasz) and Gypsie (Staffy Bull Terrier).

I'd use them both to predict TDN in hay, which qualifies them as farming dogs I guess. ;-) When the alfalfa was just up to the tips of Gypsie's ears and not any higher than Hadfi's elbows, then the hay was ready to cut when it was in the 10 to 25% bud stage. I'd count buds and let the dogs measure the height. Never missed a hay test with the Puppy Prediction Method.

Second shot is of Hadfi sniffing the wind. That day, winter arrived in Diamond Valley.
