On angus bulls I would stay away from the really low BW epd bulls. I have been told by too many breeders that it is a crap shoot with them and I have seen it myself along with others I know. They are not consistent in their calf crops. You will get small calves alright and some may grow well and then others will be kind of runty looking. I had much rather have a 1.5 BW epd bull than a bull closer to 0. You will still get calving ease with more consistent calves. I had a bull that was 3 coming 4 that was a +.3 BW, WW 49, YW 92. I thought he would be a good bull but I was wrong. I think is was one of the sorriest bulls I have ever owned. He ended up going down the past summer and dieing. His calves are inconsistent and he is prolly where he needs to be. Those small calves are not at vigorous at birth either. It is not so much what a calf weighs but how he is made. That will play more of a role than the weight.
