If you have your average cost per acre in front of you and have an idea about how much per acre profit you are comfortable with, you have a great start. Watch for seasonality as well. (Although it has been thrown out the window in the past twelve months or so.) Sell into strength and not weakness.
If you have an idea and are not sure, bounce it off of somebody. Nobody is always right and nobody is always wrong. What we can all do is learn a bit more everyday about getting better. Volatility has made it more difficult with not only pricing, but inputs as well.
If you have a big day in grains, what does it hurt to sell 2 to 5 percent of your production? The elevator down is at least twice as fast as the elevator higher. | |
