I love the potential soil health aspect, but the problem in my northern Iowa location is that we get almost no fall growth (usually) before we winter in and we sometimes plant with snow in the groves and consequently very little spring growth. I can see where central iowa , Missouri, and much of Illinois , and Indiana could see way more benefit because of their milder climate. We keep experimenting and actually grow rye to harvest for a cover crop seed company.
