NWMO
We run 2 for several reasons... Main machine is 2012 S670hillco pushing 12 row corn and 35ft draper... Second one NOW is a 2011 9770 5000+ hour machine with a 625F platform. It's in great mechanical shape jjust high hours... Our second machine use to be a 2166hillco with a 6row corn and 22.5 1020 h platform... Second machine was for small fields, custom farms, and terrace channels... But keeping two odd sets of standard wear parts, filters and it wasn't a great backup plan for main machine?? We made the switch so most everything interchanges... Second machine is draper ready and long auger ect... so it can fill in if needed... It maybe gets a 50-100hrs a year but it's cheap insurance and we can now use any head on either combine ect... It has been the most effective setup for us... We don't do the one corn, one bean machine? Simply because it takes less than 5min to change crops... So far have not needed a backup plan but is definitely NICE two have two of them mowing beans on the good days... I'd still recomend a MAIN machine and a BACKUP machine rather than two equal machines. We have also set them up to map together ect... already had this for planting, so works out well...
