Tons of questions. Value of your machine in trade. I found spare tillage worth it. Keeping older tractors that could still do the job. But we are talking under $1000 for a different type of springtooth. (Imo the new shovels installed not that many acres ago) made it a deal I couldn’t pass up.
Same for tractor that I would not get $4000 for. It starts, runs, I don't feel bad if it runs all day hauling dirt, trash, trees. *ok I shut it off if loading not expected to be under 10 minutes*. I sold the disc it could easily pull. But have plow, disc/chisel, springtooth it can hook right onto if big tractor can’t.
Chisel plow @ half hour to remove two shanks each side.
But combines. Yours might be worth what in trade? 30k? Its value drops every year. Often MORE if not used every year. Batteries fail, tires go flat, mice chew stuff, rust, sensors…
I see 9610 JD and nicer going rather cheap for hours if it was +10 years ago. Figure how everything has gone up. They are cheap. I just saw a 7720 one owner, 25 bean head, 8 row corn head. Grain head 5 belt. Whole combo $20k IIRC 2200 hours. Not poly corn head. Looked like everything but corn head always inside, with undersized header trailer. *the bar under 25’ flew head looked only 15’ long? Why he didn’t extend that at least 4’ either side?

Back to question. 2 combines are 2x the work, storage…. But if you will not get much in trade, have the shed room, can find a hired help for harvest. It can make things go. I know farms where one combine is set for beans. Depending on year. They might. Be combining wet corn with winter threatening. So wet corn holding full, they fire up bean combine for a day. I love spares. Fixed tires when one goes flat? Call wife to get me. I go home, grab mounted tire, Jack, impacts. Replace, get home, lunch, wife gives ride to tractor. 1 hour loss with lunch, bathroom break.
But a $30k plus combine. Needs to be used. A $800 springtooth sits one season. No big deal.
If I had funds. I would keep it. Next fall advertise it at a high amount. With “will be used so hours increasing”
Someone has combine fire. They see it actually running. They might pay more. If not you have it as backup.
After 2 years decide to seriously sell, or not.
