“These are the times that try men's souls.” | Well we gathered some first calf pairs we hauled into Utah to get out of snow bank in March. Lot of those calves lost ears, couple lost tips of tails. Well this heifer calf ended up losing both ears. Found her yesterday lungs very challenged. Gave her a ride on bike for two miles until we could get a shot of meds for her.
These are the ones that are hard for me, such a will to live then get lung issues overtime. Hopefully we can knock it in her. Gave her the name of Big Nose Katie and with no ears her nose looks really big.
We are only about 2 miles north of the old Transcontinental railroad above the Great Salt Lake. What I would give to see old #119 train running that line again. If a person could step back in time in 1869'.
If rail lines were still in place, maybe send Katie to Yuma on the 3:10 to meet up with Doc Holiday. Maybe Katie's lungs would get better down south. But with fences getting knocked down by the border, figure old Katie would get to wandering. She might not come home.
