I have never had a radio in a boat before. Now that i have a decent size boat I was considering putting in a radio in case of emergency. However, I got to thinking, are the big big boats and freight barges actually monitoring the public or emergency channels? for instance if I was in trouble, lets say engine problems left me stranded, or even worse say you were stopped in the channel and needed to avoid an on comming vessel, would they actually be able to hear you or respond to your situation? Does the coastguard or wildlife agencies monitor these frequencies?
