Is your truck a 3500? It used to be that one of the differences between a 2500 and a 3500 were 245's vs. 265's (stock tires). The rims on a 2500 were 6 1/2 inches wide vs 7 inches on a 3500. According to some posters at pickuptrucks.com , some tire dealers would refuse to mount the 285's on a 6 1/2 inch rim.
