Don't even try to measure the shares, you will only get meaningless numbers. Measure above the bottoms on the framework that the beams are fastened to. This framework should run front to back and allow a measurement to be made squarely across the plow. I hope that makes sense. You should get a measurement of 14, 16, or 18 inches.

The only exception that I can think of that would give an erroneous result would be if for instance it is an 18 inch plow with 16 inch bottoms which was done at one time in my area. Some plows still used an 18 inch share with the 16 inch moldboard in this case.
