Subject: RE: single pass seeding questions

Mather, Manitoba
Mid row fertilizer equipment are supposed to be set 1" to 2" lower than the seed openers to allow for proper sealing up of dirt and prevent denitrifying. A mid row shank going that deep brings up alot of dirt and in a drier year brings up alot more clumps of dirt. Wetter years, they gum up worse. The coulter style of mid row banders leave a way smoother field. Neighbors have been using the mid row shank for 3 years now and it is no comparison to the other neighbor that uses the coulters. We bought a coulter system for our drill for this year.

Depends on how and where your fert supplier is setup: I'd use that criteria to determine which way to go.
