Subject: row cleaning when planting second crop beans into wheat

Driftless SW Wisconsin

There is a lot of this done in John Burns' area  of SE KS and SW MO.

I would not recommend using a coulter at all - Just standard finger type row cleaners.

I would say use them in the intersecting position but in worked corn ground or behind a turbo till you definitely do NOT want intersecting row cleaners. A finger type row cleaner only in the offset position should work well in all of those conditions.

I am trying to answer your question generically.  Whatever brand you choose in the conditions you mention, especially the double crop beans, you probably should NOT use a coulter or combo. Make sure you have HD but easily adjustable down pressure on the row unit.

What planter do you have?
