| I ran a gas 440 from 1974 thru 1978 equipped with a 16' platform & a 444 cornhead. Wanted a diesel but there weren't any available & I needed a combine. Combine handle the platform okwhen I was in 36" row beans but lacked power when I switched to drilled beans in '78, yields in the 50s & in some cases 60+. It would handle 150-175 bpa corn as long as it was below 22% and you didn't try to unload on the go. Anything above that & it made for a long day.
Biggest disadvantage I felt with the 440s was that they weren't available with hydrostat. At the time I was farming about 350 acres & doing some custom work.
I don't keep track of older equipment values but I'm quessing in the $3-$3,500 range with the head assuming it's mechanically sound. | |
