| Eric, this really has nothing to do with your question, but my '79 Impala with TH350 tranny has a similar weird habit in reverse. Or did the last time it was driven which was several years ago. Not sure I'll ever get it running again and if I do it's hard to tell how the tranny will work or maybe not.
Anyway, this car would not back away from a cold stop so I always parked so it could drive out. All forward gears seemed fine but reverse would not work until things had warmed up. Reverse worked normally after the car had been driven and the trans warmed up.
