SW Saskatchewan | The small diameter would tend to bog out with a ridge of dirt ahead of it. The standard rollers are plenty heavy to push most rocks into the ground in farmland and even in hayland in the spring just after frost has left ground. I suppose there is someone who would try to drag the roller over boulders but 12" will press in - just slow down - anything bigger is just too scary.
Cowboys in the Cypress Hills where the soil is cobble rock dusted with clay have always used rollers to make hayground but they preferred 48"-60" rollers filled with water to press rock into rock. Their rollers were generally only 12' long but still would push a tractor around on steep ground. | |
