Galahad, Alberta | I don't know what type of conditions you seed into, but I once tried pulling a land roller directly behind our air drill when no-till seeding field peas into wheat stubble, and I had to pull the pin on the roller. Ground was too moist, and the roller would build up with earth, until a big packed pizza would peal off the roller and it turned out to be so hard that when it dried, the peas couldn't push through it, and I had these bare patches, anywhere from the size of dinner plate to 3' across. Really cut the yield and then the weeds came. We have learned that with our soil "here", we have to let the ground dry a bit on top before we roll it. I guess a bit more clay content makes it sticky.
